GAUTENG - Domestic violence and attack on women is still rife in some households despite efforts by law enforcement agencies and government departments to put an end to it.

A 34-year-uncle was arrested yesterday, 08 March 2020 at Swaneville after he allegedly attacked and assaulted his niece using an empty beer bottle.

That was after the complainant and her grandmother have discussed and decided to accommodate one of their family members in a shack in the yard.

The suspect got angry and suddenly charged at the complainant and slapped her with an open hand.  He further took an empty beer bottle and struck her to the face. She sustained an open wound and was later taken to hospital for treatment.

The matter was reported to the police by the granny and the 34-year-old uncle was arrested and charged with assault GBH.

The suspect appeared briefly today in the Kagiso magistrate court.
