Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal
Media Centre 19 June 2014 On Tuesday, 17 June 2014, Mountain Rise SAPS members made a breakthrough and arrested a 39 year-old suspect for raping three women aged between 19 and 23 on different occasions. It is alleged that between March and June 2014 the suspect lured women along Willowton Road by promising them jobs. He would set up an appointment to meet with the victims in town and whilst walking with them along the railway route he would threaten them with a knife. He would rape them before robbing them of their belongings and flee the scene. The suspect was charged with three counts of rape and he is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court today. The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended Mountain Rise police for the arrest of the suspect. "We are responsible for the safety of our citizens and need to ensure that they are not exposed to such criminals," she said. -End- Media Enquiries: Colonel Jay Naicker Mobile: 082 556 7865 KwaZulu-Natal:
