EASTERN CAPE - In an effort to curb murders and/or attempted murders, the district members continues searching for dangerous weapons and illegal firearms. A 35-year old man was arrested by Ngqeleni Vispol members after they followed information about a man alleged to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspect was found in possession of a CZ75 9mm pistol with no ammunition and it's serial number filed off. This arrest happened at Corhana locality yesterday, 23 April 2020 at about 22:00. The suspect will be profiled to determine whether he is involved with other crimes. He will appear before Ngqeleni Magistrate Court today facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Lastly, Mthatha POP members were conducting stop and search around Bityi when they stopped a black Toyota Avanza at Ntilini locality Xhongora A/A in Bityi yesterday at about 23:10. After stopping the vehicle, the occupants fled on foot and upon searching the police recovered a 9mm Girsan pistol with 07 rounds and erased serial number.

Both firearms will be sent for ballistic testing.
