Media Statement On 23 April 2020, Kathu Crime Prevention members namely Sgt Ben Eiman and Constables Blythe Jantjes and Beatriz Canchibato received information about liquor being sold illegally at a house in Kathu. The members monitored the activities at the mentioned house and obtained a search warrant. Upon searching the house on 24 April 2020 at approximately 16:45 the members discovered various types of alcohol valued at R20 000-00 as well as cash amounting to R8 050-00. The liquor and cash were confiscated. A 47-year-old male was arrested and charged in terms of Regulation 11 B(4) of the Disaster Management Act, 2020 for the Prohibition on the sale of liquor. The suspect will soon appear in the Kathu Magistrates’ court. The Station Commander of Kathu SAPS, Lt Col Sandra Boshof applauded the members for their efforts in stamping down the authority of the state especially during the lockdown period. Ends
