Media Statement UITENHAGE: Excellent teamwork between Port Elizabeth K9 Unit and SAPS Uitenhage members resulted in the speedy arrest of a burglar caught in the act last night, 4 August 2020. It is alleged that at about 23:20, police responded to a housebreaking in progress at the Department of Education in Cannon Street, Uitenhage. On arrival, a suspect was seen inside the premises. Police cautiously entered the building and with the assistance of K9 Rex, they managed to disarm the suspect who had a knife in his hand. The 32-year-old male suspect was detained on a charge of housebreaking and theft. All the stolen property (that was already packed and left outside the building) was recovered. The suspect is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Thursday, 6 August 2020. Uitenhage Station Commander, Brigadier Thandiswe Kupiso commended the members and Rex for their swift response which led to the successful recovery and arrest of the alleged suspect. “Teamwork between the various operational units is important in ensuring that suspects do not evade arrest,” added Brig Kupiso.
