DURBAN – Operations to root-out criminals who destroy our essential infrastructure are still ongoing in the province. This was followed by three suspects who were found in possession of a stolen copper cable.

Police officers from Provincial Trio and Vehicle Task Team as well as K9 Unit carried out the operation on 01 March 2021 after information was received about thieves who were stealing copper cables. The team proceeded to Yellow Wood Park where three suspects were spotted walking along the track. A chase ensued and three men aged between 23 and 24 were placed under arrest after they were found in possession of 120 meters of copper cable.

The estimated street value of the recovered copper cable is R55 000-00. The copper cable was positively identified by Prasa. The suspects will appear before the Durban Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of tampering and destroying essential infrastructure.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya congratulated all involved in the arrest of the suspects and for continuing with the fight against copper thieves.
