The North Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Zukiswa Mbombo welcomed the conviction and sentencing imposed on Ashraf Athens Dyers (20) who were sentenced to 18 years imprisonment while a 17-year-old minor was handed 12 years imprisonment by the North West High Court in Mmabatho on Monday, 15 September 2014.

A 27-year-old woman was walking home in Bladeville, Lichtenburg from town on 30 August 2013 when the two accused confronted her, threw her on the ground, undressed her and took turns to rape her. The accused further took her to one of the accused RDP house where she was repeatedly raped the whole night. The victim informed the police about the incident the following day after she escaped while the accused were asleep, and that led to their arrest. The pair was then charged with two counts of Kidnapping and Rape.
