Western Cape: Crime Prevention patrols took place on Wednesday 2017-03-01 at about 13:45 in Compassberg Street, Mitchells Plain, during which police members stopped and requested to search a male suspect in the street. The search resulted in the arrest of the suspect for possession of a stolen firearm and possession of drugs. The firearm was reported stolen in Parow. The suspect is an alleged gang member. He is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on Friday 2017-03-03.                                                                           

The Mitchell’s Plain Station Commander, Brigadier Cass Goolam, stated that the SAPS encourage community members to exercise responsible firearm ownership. Please ensure that your firearm is stored in a safe and that the key is kept in safe storage or the code is kept secret. Keep firearms away from children and teach them that a gun is not a toy. Report any losses related to firearms immediately.
