Eastern Cape cross-border operations destabilize stock thieves

KING WILLIAM’S TOWN - A cross-border operation between OR Tambo, Alfred Nzo and Joe Gqabi Districts, aimed to curb the prevalence of stock theft, on 02 August 2020, yielded the following successes:

At OR Tambo District in Qumbu the operation covered the following villages, Black hill, Ngxabane,Qumbu Village and Ncalukeni.

At Tsolo the following villages were covered namely Sidwadweni, Tsolo Village and Ntshiqo.

At Alfred Nzo District , Lwandlana, Toleni,

Essek in Mt Frere.

At Joe Gqabi District two areas namely Katkop and Maladini were visited.

The following actions were executed:

• 123 Small holdings were visited

• 2 Raid for stolen stock

• 2 Stock pounds visited

• 1 Raid for wanted suspect

• 3 Tracking of stolen stock

One male suspect aged. 26, was arrested at O R Tambo District, Qumbu for possession of suspected stolen stock and two suspects aged between 35-36 were arrested for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.

At Joe Gqabi District, Katkop a 26-year-old man was arrested for stock theft.

At Tsolo, 10 cattle were recovered while at Qumbu six sheep and 19 goats were recovered.

At Mt Fletcher, ten sheep and a white Toyota bakkie, two horses one cow, two sheep, two sheep and three cattle were found.

At Tsolo 14 sheep were found.

All the operations resulted in recovery of 32 sheep, 14 cattle, two horses, 19 goats and one vehicle.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga encouraged the members to work as a team, gather necessary information and ensure these intelligence driven interventions deal a fatal blow to current stock theft operations in Eastern Cape.
