LIMPOPO – Police Sergeant Mahlora Harry Nchabeleng (37) has been sentenced to four (4) years direct imprisonment for corruption.

The Tzaanen Magistrate Court convicted and sentenced Nchabeleng on Thursday.

Nchabeleng from Mankweng police station, was entrusted to investigate money market related fraud in October 2016 which occurred at Paledi Shoprite in Mankweng.

Nchabeleng successfully traced the suspect and instead of arresting him, he demanded a R3000-00 gratification to derail the investigation.

The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation by the complainant and Nchabeleng was subsequently arrested at his workplace in July 2018.

He was granted R1000-00 bail until the court found him guilty.

The Provincial Head of the DPCI Major General Thobeka Jozi has welcomed the sentence and hoped that it will serve as a warning to other SAPS members who are involved in corrupt activities.
