PARKTOWN – Members of South African Police Service Crime Intelligence on 14 September 2020 partnered with Johannesburg Metro Police Department in an intelligence-driven operation that led to the recovery of drugs with an estimated value of over R25 million in Yeoville, Johannesburg.

The integrated team acted on information of a cocaine consignment which was to be delivered at a flat situated at Corner Jolly and Cavendish streets in Yeoville. Information was operationalised and the team pounced on the mentioned address where police found bags of pure cocaine powder as well as packets with cocaine rocks. A suspect was arrested and charged with possession of and dealing in drugs.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, police arrested a man for possession of chemicals suspected to be used for manufacturing drugs in Orlando West, Soweto, on Monday 13 September 2020. Police were attending to a domestic violence complaint when they noticed a plastic bag full of white substances suspected to be drugs. They searched the premises and found more bags full of the substance. The owner of the house was charged with possession of chemicals suspected to be used for the manufacturing drugs. The value of the chemicals is yet to be determined.

Gauteng Commissioner of police, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has applauded the collaboration between law enforcement agencies as they continue to yield positive results and minimise the volumes of crime. "It is our communities who stand to benefit from such recoveries as the scourge of drugs has inflicted hardships in our nation, particularly the youth" said Lieutenant General Mawela.
