DURBAN – Yesterday at midday, Berea police officers were conducting patrols along Currie Road in Essenwood when they received information about a house robbery in progress. When the police arrived at the scene, they noticed a vehicle parked at the entrance of the property. The suspects immediately opened fire and there was a shoot-out. Some of suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle whilst other jumped over the wall. A 25-year-old suspect was placed under arrest in a neighbour’s yard. He was found in possession of a laptop. The other two suspects fled the scene with a TV and other belongings. It is alleged that three armed suspects held the occupants in the house and stole a TV and laptops. A police vehicle was damaged during the shootout. The suspect will appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court next week on robbery charges. The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Gonya commended the police officers for swiftly arresting the house robber. Ends
