Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal Media Centre KwaMashu police just outside Durban arrested two suspects aged 26 and 31 years for business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They were arrested few minutes after they allegedly committed business robbery in the area. The arrested suspects are due to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court soon facing business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. It is alleged that on 5 January 2015 at approximately 15:00 the victim was at his business premises (tuck shop) at J section, KwaMashu, when he was approached by three suspects at gunpoint. They threatened him with firearms and took an undisclosed amount of cash and airtime vouchers before they fled the scene on foot. Local police responded immediately after the robbery was reported and managed to arrest two suspects with the help of the community. They were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to check if it was used in any crime in the country. The third suspect is still at large and the police are confident that he will be arrested soon. The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised KwaMashu police for working diligently and arrest the suspects. "I am pleased with the successful arrest of the suspects and recovery of the unlicensed firearm” she said.
