FREE STATE - A 45-year-old male has been arrested by police in Brandfort. This is after a 33-year-old man was fatally stabbed outside a tavern in Majwemasweu location. It is alleged that on Saturday, 25 April 2026 at around 21:50 while police were conducting patrol duties in Majwemasweu they were stopped by a group of residents. Members were then alerted to a stabbing incident outside the local tavern. On arrival at the scene police discovered an african male lying on the ground with a stab wound on the left side of the neck. The victim identified as Sabata Richard Motshabi (33) was declared dead on the scene. It is alleged that while they were inside the tavern the suspect allegedly accused the victim of taking his money. The altercation between the two cousins escalated outside of the tavern. It is further alleged that the suspect then took out a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck. The deceased was found lying near the gate of the liquour establishment. The suspect was subsequently arrested. Police confiscated the knife alleged to be used in the commission of the crime and booked it in as evidence.
The male suspect (45) is expected to appear before the Brandfort Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of murder.
