Two suspects aged 18 and 24 years will appear today, 10 October 2016 in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court facing fraud and possession of counterfeit notes to the value of R1,2 million. The arrest was made on Saturday, 8 October 2016 by K9 Unit members from Umlazi area when they followed up information at U section, Umlazi, about fake notes. The members pounced in the house and it was searched. With the help of currency detection dog, Erica, the members recovered R1,2 million from the house as well as from the vehicle that was parked in the premises. All notes were R100 fake notes with same serial numbers. Two suspects who were in the house were arrested and charged for fraud and possession of counterfeit notes.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa commended the member of K9 unit for acting swiftly on information received and arrested the suspects. ‘I also thanked the members of the community for supplying the police with positive information about suspects allegedly in possession of these fake notes,’ he said.
