WESTERN CAPE – The swift response by members of the Harare Crime Prevention Unit led to the arrest of four suspects for the possession of a hijacked vehicle, the illegal possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property on Thursday.

The members were busy with crime prevention duties in Mandela Park when they received information of a vehicle that was hijacked. While driving in Govan Mbeki Road they spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver sped off. The vehicle was stopped after police vehicles cornered the vehicle. The members searched the vehicle and the occupants and found a 9mm pistol and cellular telephones inside the vehicle. Four suspects between 24 and 27 were arrested.

They will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court once they have been charged.

In an unrelated intervention, member of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested three adult male foreign nationals on Thursday evening when they searched a premises in Winsor Park, Kraaifontein and found 716 units abalone and drying equipment in the house.

They will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ on Monday.
