GAUTENG - Five suspects Sibusiso Malala (25), Johannes Dlamini (31), Itai Daniel Masingitana (31), Moses Daniel Masingitana (25) and Dumisani Rapheul Nzinga (54) have appeared before the Evander Magistrate Court on Monday, 21 July 2025 following their arrest on Saturday, 19 July 2025 for contravening the Precious Metals Act, Act 37 of 2005.

During a multidisciplinary operation on Saturday, 19 July 2025, by members of the Hawks’ Johannesburg based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) as well as the SAPS K9 Dog Unit members executed search warrants on three properties in Evander, Mpumalanga. At the first property in Evander, members arrested (04) suspects, this after they were found offloading gold bearing material on a Toyota Hilux. One suspect was arrested after officers spotted his vehicle along the Braamfisher Drive, officers then proceeded to his place of residence, where they found cash amounting to R30 000 as well as one gold nugget was discovered inside the house and another inside his vehicle. Officers proceeded to the third property where during the search officers found R1 million cash in different rooms of the property; the owner of the property has since evaded arrest.

The five suspects made their first appearance before the Evander Magistrate Court on Monday, 21 July 2025 where the matter was postponed to Wednesday, 23 July 2025 for a formal bail application.
