DURBAN – Five men are appearing before Durban Magistrate’s Court today facing housebreaking and possession of housebreaking implements charges.

Yesterday the Sydenham area, Trio Task team members along with a local security company arrested five suspects between the ages 20 and 37 who were travelling in a vehicle suspected to be involved in criminal activities along in the Sydenham and Mayville policing precinct.

Police were alerted to the vehicle that was traveling along Reservoir Hills and Umgeni Road. Police officers together with local security companies then followed the vehicle out of Reservoir Hills into Umgeni Road. The vehicle was pulled over and after a thorough search several housebreaking implements were found in the vehicle. Five men, who were occupants of the vehicle, could not provide police with a satisfactory explanation with regards to the items that were in the vehicle and they were arrested and taken to the Sydenham police station for further investigation.

On further investigation it was discovered that the same vehicle and suspects were linked to a Mayville housebreaking that was committed earlier in the day. The suspects were then detained at Sydenham and charged for being in possession of housebreaking implements. When profiling the suspects, one of them was said to have a long list of prior convictions for house robbery and housebreaking. All the suspects will be profiled to ascertain as to whether they are linked to other cases in the Sydenham and neighbouring stations.
