Media Statement DURBAN – The complainant alleged that on 15 November 2020 at 20:30 at Winterton, he and his business partner were taking the dishes inside the house as they had finished eating when five males followed them. At gunpoint they were robbed of bank cards, jewellery and they were forced in the boot of their vehicle. They were later dropped off at Emmaus area and the suspects fled with the complainant’s vehicle. A case of house robbery was opened for investigation at Winterton SAPS. The complainant’s vehicle was later recovered at P Section in Umlazi on the following day. The docket was assigned to the investigating officer who investigated the matter further following all possible leads regarding the suspects involved. On 24 November 2020, the investigative team managed to make a breakthrough when a total of three suspects aged between 20 and 34 were arrested. They were found in possession of an AK47, two pistols and 34 rounds of ammunition. They appeared before the Colenso Magistrates Court today. They were remanded in custody until 03 December 2020 for a formal bail application. KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the investigating officer for thoroughly investigation the case and the arrest of the suspects. “The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing,” he said.
