Western Cape cluster stations namely Mitchell's Plain, Strandfontein and Lentegeur held several crime prevention operations this past week from 12h00 Sunday, 14 September 2014 and 12h00 Sunday 21 September 2014 that yielded successful results due to the positive relationship between the police and its community structures which include Street Committees and Neighbourhood Watches.

This past week police confiscated 3 firearms and various amounts of ammunition and some of these successes are reflected below:

On Sunday (2014-09-14) at about 19:00 the Mitchell's Plain Police received information that firearms were kept in a house in Korfbal Street, Beacon Valley. Upon arrival the members conducted a search and confiscated two firearms, two magazines with rounds of ammunition hidden underneath a bath in the bathroom. Police arrested a 25 year old male on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition. The suspect appeared in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrate Court on Tuesday (2014-09-16).

On Wednesday (2014-09-17) at about 21:10 the Mitchell's Plain police were busy doing patrols when they followed up on information they received from the community that there was a firearm in a house in Epson Street, Beacon Valley. The members conducted a search in the suspected house and recovered a prohibited shotgun and ammunition in a cupboard inside the house. The members arrested a 26 year old male on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrates' Court on Monday (2014-09-22).

Integrated operations were conducted in Mitchell's Plain with SAPS and Law Enforcement where VCP was conducted where vehicles were searched and tested. The aim for this operation was to look for suspects involved in various crimes and to combat crime and to maintain high visibility by various Law Enforcement Agencies in the Mitchell's Plain Area. The VCP operations led to 105 fines issued amounting to R84-700, 00.

These successes are a reflection of the good co-operation that exists between the community and the South African Police Service. Police management has expressed their gratitude to the various Law Enforcment Agencies, Street committees and Sector Sub Forums within the cluster that joined the South African Police Service in combating crime. We appeal to the community to remain vigilant and to contact their respective Sector Commanders with information.
