POTCHEFSTROOM - A 35-year-old, Golaotsemang Christopher Lobelo (alias Master), appeared in the Taung Magistrates' Court on Friday, 27 November 2020, on a charge of business robbery.

The accused's court appearance stems from his arrest on Wednesday, 25 November 2020, at Khibitswane village in Taung, after the investigation team made a follow-up on information received about Lobelo's whereabouts.

It is alleged that Lobelo and four other suspects on Friday, 20 November 2020, gained entry into a tuck-shop at Morokweng village, Taung. The owner and his wife, who were sleeping, woke up and the husband, aged 33, went to investigate. The suspects, who were found inside the shop, pointed the husband with a firearm and instructed him to leave before assaulting and shooting him on the leg. Furthermore, his wife, aged 30, locked herself inside the bedroom. However, the suspects managed to force entry into the bedroom, overpowered the wife and took the keys of a silver Chevrolet which was used to flee from the scene, with stolen items, including electrical equipment, groceries and cash.

Following the arrest, the accused was positively linked with more house and business robbery cases allegedly committed in and around Taung, Pudimoe and Klerksdorp.

The accused has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Thursday, 3 December 2020.

Police request anyone with information that can assist in the arrest of the remaining suspects to contact Lieutenant Colonel Kgosi Dihemo on ‪082 773 0630 or your nearest police station. The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the investigation team for the success which he said will send a message that crime does not pay.
