Media Centre 21 August 2014 Lwandle Police Detective Sergeant Marius Erasmus investigation work yielded good results after four murder suspects were sentenced for separate incidents. A 26-year-old woman was sentenced to 12 years by Strand Magistrates' Court after she was found guilty of murdering her 31-year-old boyfriend. The incident took place on Monday, 07 April 2014 at about 22:30 in Edward Street, Nomzamo after the suspect and deceased had an argument earlier that night. The woman left and when she returned home, she set the boyfriend's home alight, killing him. The suspect handed herself over to police the following day and admitted to committing the crime. A case of murder was opened and investigated by Detective Sergeant Erasmus. The suspect was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, suspended for four years on 29 July 2014. In another case, a 52-year-old male suspect was also sentenced by Strand Magistrates' Court, after he was found guilty of murder, committed on 07 March 2014 at Linda Street, Nomzamo. It is alleged that the suspect came home and found his friends drinking with his wife. The suspect confronted the deceased as he was unknown to him. An argument ensued which led to a scuffle. The suspect produced a knife and stabbed him and the deceased ran out of the house and collapsed outside. A case of murder was opened and investigated by Detective Sergeant Erasmus. The suspect was arrested shortly thereafter. The suspect appeared in the Strand Magistrates' Court on 14 August 2014 and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. In another murder case, the suspect was also convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in the Strand Magistrates' Court on 14 August 2014. It is alleged that on 18 May 2014 at about 19:45, the 26-year-old suspect was involved in an argument in front of the deceased's house, situated in Lonja Street, Nomzamo. The suspect then took a screw driver and stabbed the deceased in the left side of his body. A case of murder was opened and investigated by Detective Sergeant Erasmus. The suspect appeared several times in the Strand Magistrates' Court and was sentenced on 28 July 2014 to 10 years imprisonment and another five years was added for a previous suspended sentence for an assault case. Lastly, another 27-year-old suspect was sentenced for 15 years imprisonment after he was found guilty by Strand Magistrates' Court for murdering a 24-year-old male on 18 May 2013. It is alleged that the deceased was chased away by the suspect from his home in Nqolwana Street, Asanda Village when an argument and a scuffle ensued. The suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim fatally in the chest. A case of murder was opened and investigated by Detective Sergeant Erasmus. The suspect was later arrested and appeared several times in the Strand Magistrates' Court and was sentenced on 28 July 2014.
