Media Statement from Gauteng Media
Centre 02 September 2014 Diepsloot police tracing team arrested two men (22 and 28) on Monday night after they were reportedly found with two unlicensed firearms and ammunition. One of the suspects was also sought for allegedly shooting at police officers in Diepsloot extension seven (7) last year during August. He was also suspected of robbing a spaza shop. He allegedly shot through a corrugated iron dwelling in a congested informal settlement. Police had to give way for the safety of residents occupying shacks adjacent to the suspect's. He consequently escaped. A tip-off led to the suspect being arrested in Daveyton, east of Johannesburg. Both suspects will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The 22-year-old will face an additional charge of attempted murder. They will appear in the Benoni Magistrates' Court soon. -End- Media Enquiries: Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela Mobile: 082 818 9390 or 071 675 7420 SPOKESPERSON
