FOURIESBURG - A 30-year-old police Constable stationed at Fouriesburg Stock Theft and Endangered Species, appeared before Fouriesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 9 February 2022 facing a charge of theft.

The suspect Morena Lehola who was off duty, was spotted by his colleagues at a police barracks in Fouriesburg on 11 August 2021 allegedly loading a fridge belonging to the state on a white double cab bakkie.  His colleagues followed the said bakkie till at a shop in town and questioned the driver.

The driver allegedly informed police that he is waiting for the suspect to arrive. While police were questioning the driver of the bakkie, the suspect appeared and police also questioned him about the state fridge. He drove off and police questioned the shop owner. He informed police that the suspect allegedly came to him to sell a fridge. The shop owner requested to see the fridge first. A case of theft was opened for investigation and assigned to Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit. Suspect was apprehended on the 08 February 2022 after being absent without leave from December 2021.

During their investigation they discovered that a bread cutting machine and drain still pipes belonging to the police barracks were allegedly stolen by the same suspect during June 2021.

Apprehended suspect will remain in custody and will appear again on 16 February 2022 when he will probably apply for bail.
