Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal
Media Centre 29 August 2014 Last night, Thursday 28 August 2014, members from Harburg were doing their patrols in their area when they followed up information about an alleged illegal firearm at a local Induna's house. The members proceeded to the house and a search was conducted. An AK47 rifle was found and a suspect (46) was subsequently arrested. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and will appear in the New Hanover Magistrates' Court today, 29 August 2014. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any other crimes in the province. "The police will continue with their operation to eliminate all the illegal firearms that are in the hands of the criminals. It is disturbing to find that a community leader, who is expected to assist in the fight against crime, is found with an unlicensed firearm, "said Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni. -End- Media Enquiries: Captain Thulani Zwane Mobile: 071 683 6525 KwaZulu-Natal:
