POLOKWANE - Limpopo police have on Sunday made a major breakthrough when they arrested two of the most wanted suspects in the province.

A 24-year-old suspect whose name cannot be revealed was wanted for the alleged rape of his 82-year-old grandmother.  On Friday the suspect who stays with the old lady at Bolobedu, demanded the keys to the house early Saturday morning and she tossed the keys through the door.  Unbeknown to the victim, the suspect allegedly forced his way into the house, attacking the old frail lady by strangling her until she lost consciousness and then allegedly raped her.

After regaining consciousness a few minutes later, the old lady alerted the neighbours of her ordeal, who called her daughter and police respectively.  The victim was taken to hospital and simultaneously a search was launched immediately for the suspect.  The 24 hour operation yielded good results after the suspect was arrested on Sunday where he was hiding in the nearby villages.  Meanwhile, the old lady sustained serious injuries and is recuperating well in hospital.

The suspect will make his first appearance on Monday at the Bolobedu Magistrates Court on rape and other related charges.  Police investigations continue.

In the second incident, 27-year-old Vincent Mthembi who was wanted for terrorizing the community of Sekhukhune and the surrounding homesteads for the past three weeks has been captured.

The suspect was arrested in Namakgale after committing a business robbery.  The suspect, whose photo was circulated in the media, has been linked to more than 20 serious cases which amongst other include murder, house and business robberies.  During his arrest police confiscated an unlicensed 9mm firearm and some stolen items which included clothes and electric appliances.

The suspect will appear in the Namakgale Magistrates' Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, theft and business robbery before being transported to Jane Furse and Sekhukhune to face further charges of murder and business robberies. Police investigations continue.
