Media Statement from Western Cape
Media Centre 11 April 2014 During the past week since 06:00 Monday (2014-04-07) until 06:00 Friday (2014-04-11) Mitchells Plain SAPS arrested several suspects for drugs and a suspect for possession of an illegal firearm. Some of these successes are listed below. In the early hours of Tuesday (2014-04-08) Mitchell's Plain police members were doing a routine vehicle patrol in Leadwood Street, Eastridge when they noticed a suspicious man in the street. The suspect noticed our members approaching and he ran away, but our members managed to apprehend the suspect and they confiscated a 9mm pistol with the serial number which was removed and 14 live rounds. The suspect aged 24 years old was arrested and he appeared yesterday (2014-04-10) in Mitchell's Plain Magistrate Court on charges relating to possession of a prohibited firearm. Earlier today (2014-04-11) our members received an anonymous tipoff that a man at the Northern Terminal Taxi Rank in the Town Centre, CBD is selling drugs. Our members spotted the suspect and they swiftly react on him and found in his possession 50 units heroin, two whole and three halves of mandrax tablets and 2 small packet of tik. The drugs have an estimated street value of R1 700, 00. The suspect aged 28 years was arrested and he is due to appear on Monday (2014-04-14) in Mitchell's Plain Magistrate Court on charges relating to drugs. The Mitchells Plain cluster police management want to thank all community structures of Mitchells Plain who joined the South African Police Service in combating crime, further we urge the community to remain vigilant and to contact their respective Sector Commanders and for those who have not yet joined our structures to join us by becoming part of their street committees in their respective streets. -End- Media Enquiries: Captain FC
