KIMBERLEY - Following the Internal Engagement by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing in Springbok yesterday, the programme continued today, 23 July 2025 with a Community engagement hosted by the District Commissioner of Namakwa, Brigadier Schalk Andrews on behalf of the DPC for Policing.

Prior to the engagement, the Provincial Head for Corporate Communication and Liaison, Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien and her team visited the local community Radio Station NFM to mobilize and market the event.

Journalists and presenters from Radio NFM broadcasted live from the Junior Klip Saal to keep the rest of the listeners informed as the programme unfolded. 

The Community Imbizo was hosted in collaboration with several departments and the Community Policing Forum at the Junior Klip Saal in Nababeep in the Namakwa District on Wednesday 23 July 2025.

The local Nama Khoi municipality, the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison, Correctional Services, COGHSTA, the National Prosecuting Authority, IPID and the Thutuzela Centre were amongst the stakeholders who participated in the engagement.

The panel comprising of the already mentioned departments, responded to the questions and complaints raised by the audience.

Community members from Nababeep, Okiep Bulletrap and Concordia were present in the well-attended engagement.

The main objective of the imbizo was to afford the community and opportunity to raise their concerns, issues and challenges and to express their expectations to the respective departments.

The event also presented an opportunity to enhance and improve the already existing partnerships in the Namakwa District and to reaffirm each department's mandate as well as their respective roles and responsibilities.

The Programme was facilitated by Captain Bennet Phoko attached to the Provincial Inspectorate component.

The event was opened with a powerful scripture by Pastor J Banda from the Moral Regeneration Movement.

The Provincial Head of Pro-Active Policing, who is custodian of Partnership Policing also representing the DPC for Policing, Major General Besnaar , outlined the purpose of the event.

Messages of support outlining roles and responsibilities were delivered by the representatives of the participating departments.

The District Commissioner of Namakwa, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, gave an overview of the policing within the area and also informed the audience that the District was the best performing District in the province and nationally during the first quarter. Which can be attributed to the commitment and dedication of the men and women in blue. He also cited that the community have a responsibility to take ownership for certain illegal activities in their respective areas which is as a result of the abuse and misuse of alcohol and drugs.

The Station Commander of Nababeep SAPS Lieutenant Colonel Siyabonga Mpofu, concluded the event by acknowledging and appreciating the community, the departments and the planning committee for the successful and impactful community imbizo.
