Media Statement from Gauteng Media Centre A 41 year old man died after a hostage situation on Wednesday 20, July 2016, at about 01:15. The man stabbed his 33 year old wife and son, and then held a three (03) year old son hostage before throwing him off from the balcony. The man also jumped from the balcony and was certified dead by paramedics. It is alleged that on Tuesday 19, July 2016 at about 17:00, a man had an argument with his wife and he stabbed both his wife and son with a sharp object on the low body. The wife managed to escape from the scene and the man kept the three year old boy hostage. Police were called to the scene and police hostage negotiators handled the situation. On Wednesday 20, July 2016 at about 01:15, the man threw the child from the sixth floor balcony to the ground and he also jumped. The man was certified dead on the scene and the wife and children were admitted at local hospital for treatment. Cases of inquest, attempted murder and kidnapping are being investigated by police in Hillbrow. Police management is also calling upon all communities to report any misconduct and/or any criminal activity by our members.
