KWAZULU-NATAL – Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Commercial Crime unit charged Fortunate Kandemiri (48) and Morgan Naidoo (58) for manufacturing counterfeit goods in Pietermaritzburg Central Business District.   

On 11 March 2021 members conducted a search and seizure operation after they received a complaint that the two were dealing in counterfeit goods. It is alleged that Showman Tobacoco (PTY) LTD Company was packaging and distributing snuff leaf under the brand that does not belong to them. A search and seizure warrant was executed. Upon searching the premises 7930 x 65g packets of snuff leafs,104 bulk bags and 13 master bails of tobacco to the street value of R1.2 million were confiscated. 

They were served with summons on Friday, 9 April 2021 and charged for 84 counts of contravening counterfeit goods Act. The two will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court on 27 May 2021.
