Media Statement UPINGTON - As part of Women's Month celebrations, female officers from various law enforcement agencies engaged with learners at Paballelo High School on Tuesday, 5 August 2025. The initiative was spearheaded by the Provincial Head of Proactive Policing and who is also the Champion of the Women’s Network, Brigadier Irene Kopeledi, supported by the Provincial Head for Corporate Communication and Liaison, Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien, the ZFM District office, as well as the Paballelo Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Johan Isaacs and SAPS components in the greater Upington area. Officers from the South African Police Service were joined by representatives from the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Correctional Services, South African National Defence Force, Provincial Traffic Department, Metropolitan and AVBOB. The outreach focused on key youth development issues, including the prevention of teenage pregnancy, discouraging involvement in criminal activities, and promoting the importance of regular school attendance. Ms Matebogo Setlai from the Department of Correctional Services provided an overview of the department’s functions and detention processes, highlighting rehabilitation initiatives and career opportunities within the department. The Provincial Secretary of the SAPS Women’s Network, Sergeant Venessa Sambo, and Warrant Officer Mathews Mchlauli the Champion for Men for Change, delivered motivational messages centred on women empowerment and the prevention of gender-based violence. The programme concluded with a musical performance by the Paballelo High School choir, leaving learners inspired and motivated. Dignity packs were also handed over to female learners at the school, that were donated by the participating departments. As part of the broader Women’s Month observance, similar initiatives will be held throughout the province to celebrate and reflect on the vital role of women in society. Ends
