GAUTENG – The Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court heard this morning how the suspect, Busisiwe Modiegi Penina Monamodi (34) allegedly swindled her late aunt’s estate worth approximately R3 million as an executor.

It is alleged that in August 2018, Monamodi submitted fraudulent and altered documents to the Master of the High Court in Gauteng to claim the deceased’s estate as a sole beneficiary.

Further investigation revealed that Monamodi claimed over R1.5 million in cash and two immovable properties worth approximately R1.5 million combined.

The deceased, Refiloe Rebecca Monamodi was 54-years-old during her untimely death in March 2017, when her daughter, Lerato Monamodi (37) brutally murdered her. The court found Lerato Monamodi guilty of murder and sentenced her to life imprisonment in March 2018.

Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Johannesburg arrested Monamodi on Friday and subsequently charged her with fraud, forgery and uttering. She was granted a R5000-00 bail and the case was postponed to 20 September 2021 for further investigation.
