Operation Vhuthu Hawe executed in Kimberley CBD

On Thursday, 01 September 2021 a multi- disciplinary disruptive crime prevention operation was executed in the Kimberley CBD.

The SAPS was assisted by the SANDF, the Provincial Liquor Board, Home Affairs Immigration, Sol Plaatje Security and Investigators of the Counterfeit and Illicit Trade Group.

The operation focused on cordon and searches at the Craven Street Taxi Rank. Numerous stalls at the taxi rank was searched for illegal possession or selling of drugs, stolen property, counterfeit / illicit brand name goods,  general crime prevention and stop and search of vehicles and persons.

The Provincial Liquor Board assisted with compliance inspections at the liquor outlets and Home Affairs concentrated on the legal asylum permits of foreigners found at the stalls.

Simultaneously two Vehicle Check Points (VCPs) were executed in the CBD.

A 27-year-old female was arrested for possession of Mandrax with an estimated street value of R350,  11 pokes of dagga with an estimated street value of R150 was found abandoned at the taxi rank.

Brand name counterfeit goods to the value of R250 000.00 were confiscated from different stalls.

Fines to the value of R6000 were issued to the stall owners.

Traffic fines to the value of R1350 were issued at the VCP and 160 vehicles were stopped and searched in the CBD and 271 persons searched.
