POTCHEFSTROOM - The Acting North West Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Deborah Mmolawa, has welcomed the successful conviction and sentencing in a serious case involving minors, whereby a 15-year-old offender was found guilty of rape and sentenced to three years direct imprisonment. The incident occurred on Thursday, 16 February 2023. According to evidence presented before court, a 9-year-old boy was at a soccer field with his friend busy training. The accused threatened the victims and raped the 9-year-old boy. The accused appeared before the Klerksdorp Regional Court on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, where he was found guilty and sentenced to three years' imprisonment. The individual will serve his sentence in Juvenile Prison. The Acting Provincial Commissioner commended the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Mpho Samuel Mapane, for handling this complex and sensitive case with diligence, resulting in a successful conviction. Furthermore, the Commissioner underscored that the case outcome reflects the justice system’s unwavering stance against sexual offenses and its steadfast commitment to safeguarding vulnerable members of society.
