WESTERN CAPE - Police members disarmed suspects in possession of firearms and ammunition and arrested them as they could not provide a valid licence to be in possession of the firearms.

Kraaifontein police were busy with crime prevention actions on Tuesday in Sam Njokozola Avenue in Bloekombos, at about 16:45, when they noticed a suspicious male. As the male tried to change direction he was approached and searched. A loaded Norinco 9 mm pistol was confiscated. The 44-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated matter, Delft police searched a vehicle on the corner of Moroto and Mananga Roads in Delft at about 20:45. A 23-year-old man was arrested and detained when found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm firearm and ammunition tucked onto his waist.

Meanwhile members of the Flying Squad responded to a complaint of a hijacked vehicle yesterday in Khayelitsha. The vehicle was spotted near to Mfuleni and pulled over by the police members. Upon searching the vehicle they recovered a 9 mm Norinco pistol hidden in the vehicle. Seven suspects between the ages of 22 and 29 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a Prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects are expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate court on the mentioned charges.
