GQEBERHA - SAPS Kwazakele Vispol Task Team arrested two alleged hijacking suspects’ minutes after an e-hailing driver was hijacked in Commercial Road in Sidwell yesterday afternoon, 12 September 2021.

It is alleged that at about 16:25 on the mentioned date, the complainant (23) picked up two males from Commercial Road and took them to a nearby centre to withdraw money. As they continued driving, the complainant was pointed with a firearm and instructed to stop the vehicle. He was dropped off at the truck inn in Motherwell. His cellphone and cash was also taken from him.

At about 16:40, the tracker activation indicated that the blue VW Polo was in the Algoa Park vicinity. SAPS Kwazakele Vispol Task Team members followed the tracker and spotted the vehicle in Chase Drive in Algoa Park. A chase ensued when the suspects spotted the police vehicle. Police succeeded in stopping the vehicle at the corners of Uitenhage and Chase Drive. Two males aged 18 and 20 years old were arrested.

Both males were detained on a charge of vehicle hijacking.
