POLOKWANE - The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe accompanied by the MEC for Transport and Community Safety Mme F Radzilani and the SAPS Management, released the Crime Statistics for the Fourth-Quarter of the Financial year 2022/2023. The event was held in the Provincial Commissioner’s Boardroom 2nd floor Landbank Building on Friday 09 June 2023 at 09:00.

The main objective of releasing the Crime Statistics is to keep the citizens of this Province updated regarding the Crime trends and also to help the Organisation to improve the applied methods established to fight against Crime

In attendance, was also the  Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Transport and Community Safety, Ms Sheila Seono, HOD for Transport and Community Safety, Mr Steve Matjena, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Corporate Services Major General Christina Moralakadi, the District Commissioner of Capricorn Major General Lesiba Mashilo, District Commissioner of Waterberg Major General Dikeledi Mangena, the District Commissioner of Mopani Major General Willy Mashava, Sekhukhune District Commissioner Major General Junior Lehabe-Metsi and the District Commissioner of Vhembe Major General Eddie Van Der Walt , the Provincial Heads and other stakeholders  present.

All the attendees including the Media, our important guests were welcomed by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Service, Major General Christina Morakaladi.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, mentioned that "It is high time we create an environment that will send a clear message to the criminals that crime will not be tolerated in our communities." She urged everyone to be involved in Operations scheduled such as (Operation KUKULA" and further stated that "we cannot create a state of lawlessness in the Province and still believe we are the law abiding citizens.”

The Provincial Head of Crime Registrar Brigadier Molema proceeded and unpacked a detailed Crime Statistics report.

The MEC for Transport and Community Safety Ms Florence Radzilani in her Keynote address mentioned that on their part as the oversight body, they will continue providing support to the work of the Police by ensuring that structures such as Community Police Forums and Community Safety Forums are always intact and functional.

During questions and clarification from Media houses, Jacaranda and Capricorn FM, raised several questions including, based on the recent incidents of cash in transit heist and burglaries seeking clarification in terms of SAPS intervention Strategies.

The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe responded to the concerns accordingly also pointing out that the DPC I and Crime Intelligence are working hard to address these challenges and further that as Police are also having High Density Operations that are aimed at addressing Crime.  The role of community in terms of providing support is also critical in fighting against Crime.

The District Commissioner of Capricorn Major General Lesbia Mashilo, was afforded the opportunity to address the Crime issues in his District and Major General Eddie Van der Walt also came in to address the Crime trends which are prevalent and escalating in his area of Vhembe District.

Major General Van der Walt closed the program by rendering the Vote thanks.
