Police Crime Prevention efforts led to seizure of firearms with ammunition and drugs

Police members attached to Provincial Intervention Team observed a suspicious Mini Cooper with two occupants in Gugulethu in the early hours of this morning. A high speed chase ensued and police stopped the vehicle. Upon searching it, a 9mm Norinco with ammunition and mobile speed point were found. Both suspects were arrested and once charged they will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court.

In an unrelated arrest, Bellville South police arrested two suspects aged 29 and 48, one was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition and the other one was found in possession of Mandrax Tablets.

Meanwhile in Macassar police were conducting crime prevention patrols when they stopped and searched a 46-year-old man. They found him to be in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

The arrested suspects will appear in various courts once charged.
