NELSPRUIT - Police at Acornhoek have launched a massive manhunt for suspects following an incident whereby the Acornhoek Mall was attacked by a group of armed suspects today, Friday 22 October 2021 at around 02h00 am.

Reports indicate that members of the police received information from security officers alerting them of a break-in at the said mall. It was also revealed that a group of suspects were busy looting items at the shops. Police officials indicated that on their way to the scene they heard gunshots coming from different directions and called for backup. Upon arrival at scene, they found that the suspects had fled.

About 15 shops were affected by this robbery incident and preliminary investigation suggests that the suspects gained entry through breaking a door and thereafter helped themselves with various items at the shops. The suspects also reportedly detonated certain explosives to have access to cash at the safes as well as ATM's. The suspects then fled the scene with the stolen items, including an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has strongly condemned the incident and ordered for the swift arrest of the suspects. The General further warned members of the public not to purchase or accept suspected stolen items, they should instead report such information to the police.

Meanwhile police are investigating the incident and request anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to immediately contact the Branch Commander of Acornhoek SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Albert Manzini on 0823189925 or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111. Alternatively, members of the public can send information via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
