Accused appeared in court for defrauding municipality

MPUMALANGA - The former project manager at the Dr Pixley Ka Seme local Municipality, Luthando Mpangeva (35), the former administration clerk at Supply Chain Mxolisi Hadebe (43), Sibusiso Blessing Simelane (26) the sole director of Evoke Trading were each released on R10 000 bail each after their appearance today in the Middleburg Commercial Crimes Court.

It is alleged that in 2018, the accused colluded together in facilitating and submitting fraudulent invoices of Evoke Trading to the municipality without any services rendered. The municipality suffered a total actual loss of R172 478-00. 

The accused were arrested after an intensive investigation by the Middelburg based team of the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation.

The matter was postponed to 08 December 2021 for further investigation.
