Eden Cluster police in conjunction with various policing units embarked on a number of crime prevention operations which yielded positive results when 98 suspects were arrested for several offences over the past weekend. It included high visibility patrols in crime stricken areas, stop and search operations with a special focus at drug and liquor outlets, illegal firearms and the tracing of wanted suspects.

The forces conducted a stop and search operation at Thembalethu where a 51-year-old suspect was arrested after small amounts of Mandrax tablets were found in his possession. Four shebeens were closed down and 270 litres of liquor were confiscated at a liquor outlet in Knysna. Furthermore, the team arrested 11 suspects that were wanted on outstanding warrants of arrests on serious and violent crimes.

In an unrelated matter, vigilant members of the Knysna Crime Prevention Unit deployed to conduct high visibility patrols responded swiftly to information when they arrested three suspects and recovered stolen property worth over R40000.

On Friday evening (2021-03-05) the members received information about a vehicle that left Buffalo Bay under suspicious circumstances. The vehicle was later spotted near White Location where it was stopped by the police. A search of the bakkie took the police to a house at Kubo Street, White Location.

The members descended on the house and a search resulted in the recovery of jewellery, footwear, clothing, a laptop, cellular phones as well as an undisclosed amount of cash. These items were stolen during a burglaries at Buffalo Bay and Costa Sarda in Knysna earlier.

The suspects, aged 20, 28 and 30, are facing charges of housebreaking and theft and possession of stolen property.

All arrested will make their court appearances once charged.

Acting Eden Cluster Commander, Brigadier Belinda Pather, commended the members for their vigilance in bringing these perpetrators to book. She lauded the members for their efforts that contributed to a safer weekend in the various policing precincts.
