Police rid communities of unlicensed firearms

CAPE TOWN - Efforts to rid our communities from unlicensed firearms landed a 32-year-old suspect behind bars when he was caught with a 9mm pistol with no serial number in Lugmag Street Factreton on Saturday, 30 October 2021 at about 10:10.

A joint police stop and search operation was held in the Cape Town cluster when the suspect was searched and the firearm found in his possession.

The suspect will appear in Cape Town Magistrate’s court on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition on Tuesday, 02 November 2021.

In an unrelated matter, members of Ravensmead police were busy escorting IEC officials when they heard gunshots going off. They drove in the direction of the sound of the gunshots and saw a known suspect running with a firearm in his hand. The firearm fell and the suspect kept running. The members recovered a 9mm pistol. A discharging of a firearm case were opened for investigation. The suspect is yet to be arrested and the investigation continues.
