Media Statement A team of Maokeng SAPS members led by Capt Daniel Motsoeneng and CPF Chairperson Fr Kholisile Ngcola arrested four suspects for dagga and drugs during a Safer Festive Season Operation on Friday 12 November 2021 The operation emanated as an answer to the plight of the community members aired during community meetings about drug dealers in Maokeng. The suspects comprising of three males and one female were arrested in Phomolong and Marabastad respectively. it started at Phomolong where two males were found busy packaging dagga. They were nabbed and dagga was seized. The backroom of the same house rented to a foreign national was also approached and searched. A bag of dagga was found and seized, the tenant was also arrested. Before members depart, a VW Polo belonging to the suspect was searched and dagga as well as money was found inside the boot and seized. The three males aged 18, 19 and 37 were arrested. The second bust was at Marabastad where a female (33) was found in possession of substances believed to be dagga, crystal meth, mandrax tablets and cash. She was also arrested for dealing in dagga and drugs. A further investigation revealed that the dagga and drugs from Marabastad was estimated at the street value of R1 630. On the other hand the cash and dagga found at Phomolong main house was estimated at the street value of R8 782. And the dagga seized from the rented room was estimated at R2 044.
The suspect arrested from the rented backroom is an undocumented foreign national and will therefore also be charged for being an illegal immigrant in line with Immigration Act. The four suspects will be charged for dealing in drugs and will appear at the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 November 2021.
