Seven illegal immigrants sentenced after being nabbed during operation Vala Umgodi

NELSPRUIT - The hard work by members deployed under Operation Vala Umgodi was not in vain as seven illegal immigrants, aged between 21 and 38 were sentenced to 06 months imprisonment, during their appearance at the Pilgrim's Rest Periodical Court and Graskop Magistrate's Court on 18 June 2025 and 02 July 2025 and 09 July 2025. After serving their sentence, they will be deported back to their respective countries of origin.

At the time of their arrest, on 07 June 2025, 13 June 2025, and 25 June 2025, the astute members were conducting a disruptive operation at Diggings in Pilgrim's Rest area.

The initial report indicated that the team apprehended the foreign nationals and charged them for the Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa.

Police investigators worked in collaboration with officials from the Department of Home Affairs in these cases. Their names were identified as follows:

* Antonio Alberto (31)
* Samuel Antonio Vilankulu (24)
* Zucule Eugenio Alberto (22)
* Caiphus Mlambo (21)
* Zamokuhle Ndwandwe (38)
* Vasco Zavale (29)
* Chicco Kwamba (29)

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has welcomed the sentence. The General further indicated that the sentence should send a strong message to discourage others who might consider emulating the actions of the accused persons.
