NELSPRUIT - Eight suspects aged between 21 and 39 years are expected to appear before Ermelo Magistrate’s Court today following their arrest yesterday, Monday, 14 October 202, in Taaiboschspruit farm, Sheepmoor outside Ermelo.

The suspects were arrested after the farm owner complained about intimidation, malicious damage to property, and cohesion.

According to information, community members around the farm came together and coerced the farm owner to arrange a joint meeting that will include community members, the farm owner as well as the Department of Land Affairs.

It also is also alleged that from July 2024, the community members constantly damaged the farmer's fence, burning trees from the farm and distracted normal farm activities that costed the farmer a lot of money.

The farmer finally resorted to report the matter to the police.

Preliminary investigation led to the arrest of the eight suspects, hence their appearance in court today. Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has welcomed the arrest. He further emphasised that violence is not the solution and urged community members to follow the right channels and consult with relevant stakeholders to solve their concerns.
