On Thursday 15 January 2015 at 14:00 Mthunzini SAPS members acted on an intelligence with regards to a wanted suspect in the Ongoye area, outside Mthunzini. Police proceeded to the area and spotted the suspect driving  a blue VW Polo. The 34-year-old suspect was eventually arrested in the Nkonjane area. On further investigation it was established that the vehicle was hijacked in the Phoenix area during October last year. The suspect was charged with possession of stolen property. It is believed that is also wanted for other cases including attempted murder, house breaking, carjacking and theft of motor vehicle, committed in Durban and Empangeni. He will be appearing in the Mthunzini Magistrates Court later today.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye commended the good partnership between the police and the community which lead to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the hijacked vehicle. “Members of the public are urged to continue passing information to their local police or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” she said.
