Media Statement CAPE TOWN - Lansdowne police members were busy with visible policing near to Lansdowne Corner Mall on Saturday, 26 February 2022, at around 11:15, when they heard gun shots being fired. The members drove in the direction of Jan Smuts Avenue, where a community member gave a description of the suspects, and the vehicle they fled in. The police members spotted the vehicle and gave chase. When the suspects became aware of the presence of the police members, they jumped out of their vehicle. The police members gave chase on foot and apprehended the suspects. A 9mm pistol with ammunition was recovered. Two males aged 26 and 28 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated matter, Manenberg police responded to a complaint on Saturday, at around 16:00, in Thames Avenue. Upon arrival, the complainant pointed out the suspect who pointed him with a firearm. He proceeded and indicated the location where the firearm was hidden under the suspect’s bed, upon which the police members confiscated a pistol with ammunition. The 35-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in Wynberg and Athlone on the mentioned charges. Ends
