Media Statement by the Ministry of Police

Police Minister, General Bheki Cele will on Thursday 17 March 2022 and Friday 18 March 2022 host two day Street Izimbizo in Khayelitsha and Manenberg.

These community engagements will take place in an effort to find a policing way forward, following gang related killings that claimed the lives of ten people in Manenberg in the past week.  The Street Izimbizo also take place against the backdrop of multiple murders that have shocked the community of Khayelistha, where five people were gunned down in the Endlovini informal settlement on Monday.

A police man hunt is underway to find the alleged gunmen and bring them all to book.

The aim of these community engagements is to strengthen the working relations between the police and community members who remain an integral part in the overall fight against crime. The Street Izimbizo will also provide the South African Police Service with an opportunity to update the residents on some of the operational measures that the SAPS has put in place, to ensure the areas are stabilised and there’s an increased police footprint to maintain law and order.

Members of the media are invited to cover the Street Izimbizo which will take place as follows:

Date: Thursday, 17 March 2022
