Media Statement from North West Media Centre Mmabatho: Police are investigating cases of Business Robbery and ATM bombing, after a Standard Bank ATM was bombed at a Caltex garage, Unit 7, Mmabatho at 03:50 this morning, 29 January 2015. According to information received, five suspects wearing balaclavas and holding rifles entered the garage at around 03:00.It is alleged that one of them went inside the garage shop where he found five employees and one customer. He ordered them to lie down and took the customer to the garage toilet. He allegedly went to the ATM and bombed it. It is alleged that they suspects ran-off with an undisclosed amount of money from the ATM and also from the shop’s till. No one was injured during the incident. Employees received treatment for shock at the scene, but one severely traumatised employee was taken to hospital. No arrests were made and police are urging community members to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. They can phone Mmabatho police station on: 018 397 5203 Suspect hangs himself inside police vehicle Bloemhof: The police received a complaint of house breaking and theft at a house in Bloemhof after the complainant heard a noise of a car hitting a tree outside his house on Thursday, 29 January 2015 at about 04:00. The complainant also informed the members of the local neighbourhood watch, after seeing the suspect running away from his car. The watch-members searched around the neighbourhood and saw a half-naked male running on the N12 road. They gave chase and recovered some expensive jewellery and VW Polo car keys from the suspect, in the presence of the police, who was also quick on the scene. The complainant identified his belongings and the suspect was arrested for house breaking and theft and placed in the back of the police van. The police drove to the police station. When they opened the police van to take the suspect to the cells, they found the suspect hanged himself with a trouser waist lace. An inquest was opened and it will be investigated by IPID.
