EASTERN CAPE - Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced 21-year-old man Luyolo Mqeke to undergo 15 years imprisonment. He was convicted and sentenced on Monday, 08 April 2019 at Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court.

He was convicted after he raped a 15-year-old girl. It is alleged that the victim was going to her boyfriend on 07 January 2012 at about 20:00, at Mission Locality, Gwadana Village, Dutywa. She met with three (03) men who dragged her to a nearby house where they gang raped her.

Two other accused, 19-year-old Mziyanda Siphuka and 19-year-old Nkosiyakhe Tebe, were sentenced to each undergo 15 years imprisonment in 2018.

Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze has welcomed the sentences of all the accused persons. He warned women and children not to walk alone especially at night as they become victims of rape.
